Carmen-Quadrille, Op. 134 (Conductor Score & Parts)

By Eduard Strauss

Carmen-Quadrille nach Motiven der gleichnamigen Oper von G. Bizet (Carmen quadrille based on motifs from the opera of the same name by G. Bizet), Op. 134, was written by Eduard "Edi" Strauss (1835-1916), one of three brothers in the Strauss musical dynasty that dominated Viennese light music for decades. The quadrille was a lively, stylized dance for four couples, arranged in a square. The dance developed from military parades in which four horsemen performed square-shaped formations or figures. The performances became quite popular, prompting people to perform quadrilles without horses. While Strauss was known as 'The Waltz King,' he wrote music for dances in all of the currently popular forms, including the quadrille. This version of the quadrille dance incorporates themes from the famous opera by Bizet in its six short sections: 1. Pantalon, 2. Été, 3. Poule, 4. Trénis, 5. Pastourelle, and 6. Finale. Instrumentation: 1+Picc.2.1+Eb.2: 4.2.3.1: Timp.Perc(2): Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set): Pno Cond Sc only in set.
