Although these three pieces were written at different times, they have been united between two covers because of the unusual anecdotes concerning the circumstances of their composition. (These stories are given in the preface, and when you read them, you will understand why I have grouped them together.) They are of a similar technical level, and all of them are highly successful with audiences, which is another reason why they bring a glow to the cheeks of their Papa. (R.D.)
